“STAY AHEAD OF THE CURVE, KEEP MAKING YOUR OWN RULES, DON’T BE A SHEEP!

Hi! How are you?

Hi guys!, I’m doing really good thank you.

You released a new EP? How are you feeling now that it’s out for the world?

I feel over the moon! I can finally share what I’ve been working on. It’s been so fun working on this project. I get to show a new facette of myself and I’ve enjoyed doing so. I’m an Aquarius and we are multifaceted. In this project I wanted to showcase three of my “personalities”. In ‘Back it up’ you get the playful side that loves to dance. In ‘Blind’ you get a more emotional side and selfloving. Then in ‘Aquarius’ you get what I like to call ‘The Spazz’. Kind of an experimental side I’m still exploring in my music. To me Aquarians are fun, emotional and eccentric. Or maybe it’s just me :)

Do you ever get stressed before a release?

Yes of course I do. It’s always really nerve wracking to release music. There are so many stages to it. I’m mostly excited but it’s also something very personal to share with the world. My songs are my babies. You work so hard on something and then it’s out there for everyone to have an opinion on or the streams or all of those

What is your favorite part of the creative process?

Honestly I love every step! The beginning is exciting because you’ve just created something new. Relistening and adding up changes to enhance the quality of the song is also very interesting. At the end of the process I relistened to the very first version. I think hearing the differences between version 1 and the final version is actually my favourite part. It’s how I realise what was done.

You have performed live a lot as well. Do you have a favorite song to perform?

Ooh I love this question ‘cause I love performing! I would say it switches from one project to another. Right now my favourites are the most recent ones I would say ‘Blind’ and ‘Aquarius’! The atmosphere of these songs is just special to me. I also love performing ‘Minding my business’ . It's just such a fun song!

Do you have any pre-show rituals or superstitions?

There’s this movie called Showtime with Eddie Murphy where he’s an ex cop that wants to be a comedian. Before going on stage he always whispered ‘ Showtime’ to himself. I do this before every performance. I hype myself up and then go “SHOWTIME” and get in the zone.

If you could have your own festival who would be the three headliners?

Wahw this is hard for me, I listen to so much music, I always panic when I have to choose.

I’m gonna say the ones I listened to most this past year, Victoria Monet, Doja Cat & Doechii.

Also if budget wasn’t a thing I would have to invite Beyoncé and Solange every year.

Do you have any artists that you wanna see live this year? Something planned ready?

So many, I’m happy I saw Kehlani this year! She’s been on my list forever and finally came to Belgium! This summer I’m hoping to see Doechii at Pukkelpop and Samara Cyn, Bamby and Tshegue at Couleur Café. But I still need to get tickets so… :)

Your outfits are always on point! Where do you get your fashion inspiration from?

Thank you! Wahw I have an eclectic style it can be anything really. I always go back to the 90’s r&b codes. I grew up wanting to look like them so now I’m just having fun with that. Also my siblings are both fashion designers. They've designed things for me too, I sometimes wear their creations. It’s a nice way to include them in what I do.

Could you tell us a little bit more about some things that you're gonna do in the upcoming year?

Well new music! My project ‘Aquarius’ is out now! New videos are dropping as well. I’m especially excited for the video we shot for ‘Blind’, it’s my personal fav visual of the year. This year I’m having fun, so expect more content, a closer look into my process and daily struggles as an upcoming artist. So basically more life, more art!

Tell us something to inspire the culture!

Stay ahead of the curve, keep making your own rules, don’t be a sheep!
